Cassius’s gaze swept over them once more, his expression inscrutable but for the faintest hint of satisfaction that played at the corners of his mouth. “You stand now at the brink of something greater than yourselves,” he said, his voice smooth and steady, carrying with it the weight of ancient prophecy. “The path of adventure lies open before you—a path fraught with danger, yes, but also with the promise of untold power, wealth, and renown. Or you may choose to turn away, to reject this offer, and face the darkness that awaits those who would defy their destiny.”
The storm outside roared in agreement, the wind whipping through the spires of the Sovereign, as if urging them to take up the challenge, to embrace the fate that had been laid before them. The three men, so different in their pasts and their desires, now found themselves united by a single, monumental decision—a decision that would determine not only their own fates but the fate of the world as well.
“Adventure… or death,” Cassius stated, his voice a whisper that seemed to echo in the charged air, a question that held the weight of ages. The choice was theirs to make, but the implications of that choice stretched far beyond the walls of the Sovereign, out into the storm-wracked city of Serinon, and into the very heart of the world itself.
Gianni stepped inside first, holding the door open with a theatrical flourish. “After you,” he said with a playful bow, his emerald eyes glinting with amusement, though there was something more lurking just beneath the surface of his smile.
As soon as they stepped into the dimly lit apartment, the door creaked shut behind them with an ominous thud. The room was small and cramped, the air thick with the scent of stale wood and the faint, metallic tang of something Lorian couldn’t quite place. It was dimly lit by a single oil lamp on a low table, casting flickering shadows against the peeling wallpaper. The space was cluttered—papers and old books strewn about, mismatched furniture crammed into corners, and shelves filled with odd trinkets and curiosities. Yet despite the clutter, there was an unsettling order to it all, as if every object had been meticulously placed, every detail deliberate.
Gianni moved quickly, shutting the door behind him before hurrying to the far side of the room, where a narrow closet stood. Without saying a word, he leaned his entire body against the door, bracing it with his shoulder, as if holding something inside. His sudden movement immediately put the crew on edge. Lorian’s hand instinctively dropped to the hilt of his dagger, Kane’s fists clenched, and Teebee, eyes wide with confusion, took a small step back.
“Go ahead, take a seat,” Gianni said casually, his voice betraying none of the urgency that his posture suggested. “Tea, water, alcohol… whatever you like.” He flashed them a grin, though his emerald eyes never left the closet door, his body weight still pressed against it.
